What is Chin Augmentation?

Chin augmentation, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure that enhances the size and projection of the chin using implants or other techniques. This transformative surgery improves facial balance by creating better proportions between the chin, nose, and other facial features.

Chin implant surgery

For patients seeking permanent enhancement, chin implant surgery creates a stronger, more defined chin with permanent silicone implants that enhance your facial proportions and jawline definition. This approach provides the most dramatic and long-lasting results.

sliding genioplasty

This advanced surgical technique repositions your existing chin bone to achieve optimal projection and shape. Unlike implants, this method uses your own bone structure, making it ideal for patients requiring significant changes or who prefer using their natural anatomy.

“Chin” Liposuction

Remove excess fat beneath the chin to reveal better definition and contour. Often combined with chin augmentation, liposuction can dramatically improve the jawline and create a more sculpted appearance.

During this initial conversation, you’ll discuss your goals, review details about cost, scheduling, recovery, and payment options, and have all your questions answered. This informative, no-obligation discussion is designed to help you make a confident and informed decision about your next step.

Consultation & Discussion with Dr. John Diaz

Sit down with Dr. Diaz for a full-hour discussion of your goals and concerns. Share photos that illustrate your desired outcome and discuss how chin enhancement can improve your facial balance. We will address your questions about the procedure and expected results.

Physical Examination

3D Simulation

Using VECTRA® 3D imaging, Dr. Diaz creates a computer simulation showing potential outcomes with different approaches. You will see side-by-side comparisons of your current appearance and potential results. He will explain the techniques he plans to incorporate into your treatment using anatomical models.

Methods of Chin Augmentation

Chin Augmentation, Intraoral Approach

This is Dr. Diaz’s preferred technique. In this approach, the incision to insert the implant is made inside of the mouth. This avoids the creation of a visible scar on the underside of the chin making this technique essentially scarless.

Chin Augmentation, Extraoral Approach

This is the traditional way to insert a chin augmentation. The incision is made externally, on the underside of the chin. The implant is inserted using this approach. It is a very reliable way to insert an implant, but does result in a visible scar.

Chin Augmentation with Neck Liposuction

Combine chin enhancement with targeted fat removal beneath the chin and jawline for comprehensive lower face transformation and optimal definition.

Chin Augmentation with Rhinoplasty

Optimize facial harmony by combining chin enhancement with nose surgery for perfectly balanced proportions and comprehensive facial transformation.

Sliding Genioplasty with Liposuction

Advanced bone repositioning technique combined with fat removal for patients requiring significant structural changes and optimal contouring.

Custom Implant Selection

Benefit from Dr. Diaz’s extensive knowledge of implant options to select the perfect size and shape tailored specifically to your facial anatomy.

Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement

Achieve subtle projection using dermal fillers for immediate results with minimal downtime, perfect for patients wanting to preview potential surgical results. If you don’t think you’re prepared for surgery, this could be a great solution for you. Our Medspa offers the latest filler and techniques to enhance your chin and jawline without surgery.

Chin Augmentation FAQs

What types of chin implants are available?

Dr. Diaz uses high-quality silicone chin implants that come in various shapes and sizes to suit different facial structures and aesthetic goals. These implants are designed to feel natural and integrate well with your existing bone structure. The choice depends on your facial anatomy, desired projection, and aesthetic preferences.

What is recovery like after chin augmentation?

Recovery is generally straightforward. Most patients experience mild swelling and bruising for the first week, which can be managed with ice packs and prescribed medications. You can typically return to work within 7 days, though you may want additional time if your job involves public interaction. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 3-4 weeks.

Will I have visible scars from chin augmentation?

Dr. Diaz uses an advanced “No Scar” technique that places the incision INSIDE the mouth, making it completely invisible to anyone looking at you. This technique has been perfected over 20 years and hundreds of happy patients.

How long do chin implant results last?

Chin implants are designed to be permanent and typically last a lifetime. The silicone implants used are made from durable, biocompatible materials that maintain their shape and position over time. While natural aging continues, the improvement in chin projection and facial balance remains stable.

Can chin augmentation improve my jawline?

Yes, chin augmentation can significantly improve the appearance of your jawline by creating better definition and projection. A stronger chin often makes the entire jawline appear more prominent and defined. For comprehensive enhancement, Dr. Diaz may recommend combining chin augmentation with jawline contouring.

How much does chin augmentation cost in Beverly Hills?

In Beverly Hills, chin augmentation prices typically range depending on the complexity of your case and whether it’s combined with other procedures. This comprehensive fee includes surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, facility costs, implant, and follow-up care. We offer flexible financing options to make your procedure more accessible.

Can chin augmentation be combined with other procedures?

Yes, chin augmentation is frequently combined with other facial procedures for comprehensive enhancement. The most common combination is with rhinoplasty, as improving both the nose and chin creates optimal facial harmony. Other procedures that work well include neck liposuction, facelift, or jawline enhancement.

What are the risks or potential complications of chin augmentation surgery?

Potential risks are the same as for any other surgery. Dr. Diaz will review all risks in details with you during the consultation and will describe the specific techniques he uses to avoid risks and result in a great outcome.

How long until I see the final results after chin augmentation (swelling goes down, implant settles)?

Most swelling improves within 2–3 weeks. Final results are usually observed between 1-3 months.

What type of anesthesia is used for chin augmentation?

Chin augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on the patient’s needs.

Can chin augmentation be reversed or implants removed later if desired?

Yes, chin implants can be removed or replaced in a minor revision procedure if a patient wants to adjust their results.

Is there an ideal age or facial structure for chin augmentation to look best?

Best candidates are adults with a weak or recessed chin and fully developed bone structure.

How does chin augmentation affect breathing or oral function (if at all)?

Chin implants do not interfere with breathing or oral function; most patients resume normal speaking, chewing, and smiling quickly.

How long before I can resume heavy lifting or strenuous exercise after chin augmentation?

Patients can typically return to light activity after one week and resume strenuous exercise after 3–4 weeks.
