Nostril Width Information

NOSTRIL WIDTH

In some patients, it is necessary to reduce the width of the nostrils in order to provide the most beautiful result. Ideally, the width of the nostrils should not be greater than the distance between the inside of the eyes. This is called the “inter-canthal distance.” You can measure it by dropping an imaginary line from the inside point of each eye. Each nostril should be just inside this line.

The nostrils should not be wider than the width

The nostrils should not be wider than the width between the inner point of the eye.

When the nostrils exceed this width, surgical reduction of the nostril width is indicated. This is best accomplished through an “alar base/ wedge resection.” In this technique, a small wedge of nostril tissue is removed from each side of the nostril. The scar is designed to fall in the crease formed where the nostril meets the cheek skin. When designed and performed properly, the scar is almost invisible.

The cost of fixing a wide nose through rhinoplasty (nose surgery) can vary widely and depends on several factors. The cost is influenced by factors such as the surgeon’s experience, geographic location, the complexity of the procedure, facility fees, anesthesia fees, and postoperative care.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the cost of rhinoplasty in the United States can range from a few thousand dollars to several thousand dollars. The national average surgeon’s fee for rhinoplasty is around $5,500, but this is just one component of the overall cost.

It’s important to note that the total cost of rhinoplasty typically includes:

  • Surgeon’s Fee: This is the fee charged by the plastic surgeon for performing the procedure.
  • Anesthesia Fee: If general anesthesia or sedation is used, there will be associated anesthesia fees.
  • Facility Fee: This covers the cost of the surgical facility where the procedure takes place.
  • Preoperative and Postoperative Care: This may include consultations, follow-up appointments, and any necessary medications.
  • Additional Costs: There may be additional costs for medical tests, imaging, or special garments.

It’s crucial to have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your specific goals, assess your nasal anatomy, and receive a personalized cost estimate. During the consultation, the surgeon can explain the potential techniques involved, the complexity of the procedure, and provide a breakdown of the associated costs.

Keep in mind that the cost of rhinoplasty can vary based on geographic location, and it’s important to choose a qualified and experienced surgeon for the best results. Additionally, inquire about what is included in the total cost and whether there are any potential additional fees.
